DFAB HOUSE: implications of a building-scale demonstrator for adoption of digital fabrication in AEC

The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry finds itself in an accelerating shift towards the use of more digital fabrication (DFAB) technologies. DFAB promises great advantages AEC, but its adoption is so far lagging there are few examples building projects employing at scale. To facilitate adoption, we need to identify challenges opportunities project context understand implications beyond boundaries. do this, this paper conducts a single case study on HOUSE, first introduce several fundamentally new technologies construct fully functional building. Using Qualitative Content Analysis, provide overview consider strategies available successfully adopt construction projects, establishing socio-technical framework for AEC projects. We find that full-scale effective exploration method implementation scale increases acceptance instrumental emergent praxis DFAB.
